3 Reasons we are speaking out against LifeWise Religious Instruction:
1. We are not anti-religion. We are pro-separation of church and state.
We support the freedom of belief for people of all faiths and backgrounds. That’s why we defend the separation of church and state. Public schools are not the place for religious instruction. Keeping government and religion separate protects everyone’s rights, regardless of their beliefs. In Oldham County, there are people of many different faiths, and even within those faiths, there are many different sects.
2. We want every child to feel safe, included, and respected.
Public schools must ensure every child feels safe and included. Separating students during the school day for off-campus religious programs opens the door to exclusion and faith-based bullying, weakening the shared community our students are meant to build.
3. We believe in strong public schools that serve our democracy.
Public schools are often a child’s first experience with government. They teach respect for different backgrounds and beliefs, values that are essential to a healthy democracy.
