Call to Action: Demand an End to 287(g) Agreements

ICE is out of control and Americans are being killed. Our neighbors are being terrorized and families torn apart. Masked agents with tactical gear and war-grade weapons are acting with impunity and cruelty. This is not the America we want for our families and friends. This is not the America once thought of as the shining city on the hill. We demand that Oldham County officials stop their cooperation with ICE; we demand our state legislators to not mandate 287(g) agreements.

Mission of this Project

Action: Demand a Stop to 287(g) Contract

Oldham County Jailer Jeff Tindall willingly signed an ICE 287(g) agreement. The Oldham Fiscal Court benefits from this arrangement by using the federal funds generated to pay down debt on the detention center.

Using our fellow human beings for this scheme is reprehensible enough, but now we are seeing Americans killed by ICE agents. ICE agents are using Gestapo-like tactics and are indiscriminate in who they are detaining. The demand to meet quotas drives this behavior. Not being held to account for their behavior is emboldening agents to be more violent and aggressive with protestors and targets alike.

We, in no way, want any association with ICE. We do not want to be remembered as a county that willingly cooperated with this authoritarian and cruel operation.

Oldham County is in an agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

For your message, be concise, direct, and polite. An example: ICE is out of control. I do not want my hometown associated in any way with this. After seeing the two shootings, I am horrified and I want OC to drop its 287(g) agreement. Please respond with your intentions.

We are intentionally not giving a form email. Those are often dismissed by officials. We want your unique message.

Action: Demand KY Legislators Not Mandate 287(g) Agreements

Minneapolis, Minnesota – January 23, 2026 Photo by Fibonacci Blue CC by 4.0

Rep. TJ Roberts has advocated for making 287(g) agreements mandatory. Currently, local officials can decide whether they want to cooperate with ICE. Two bills have been introduced in the KY General Assembly reflecting Roberts’ desire to force local law enforcement to become de facto ICE agents. The bills will go committee for consideration for action.

It is critical that early and frequent calls be made- stopping this bill in committee is the goal.

Following the same guidance as above, click on the action button below to send your message to KY Representatives and Senators on the Local and State Government committees. The bills are HB 47 and SB 86.
