First Newsletter!

Kentucky Citizens for Democracy,

This is the first communication going to our new format. These emails and the Facebook group will continue to be the primary sources of communication moving forward.

As you run into like-minded people who you think might be interested in being involved in the type of work our group is doing, please send them to kycitizens.org and tell them to click on the link at the top of the home page to sign up for our email communications, newsletter (coming soon), and volunteer opportunities.

Upcoming action items and events:

  • We are looking for someone who lives in Oldham County (or multiple individuals) to attend the Public Safety & Jail meeting this coming Monday, May 5th, at 10:00 am. They meet at the same place as Fiscal Court (2nd floor of the courthouse). We have a set of questions we would like asked about the 287(g) agreement with ICE and the Detention Center in general. Currently, we don’t have anyone in our group who has the luxury of taking off work at 10 am on a Monday. If you would be willing to show up and ask the provided questions during the public comment portion of the meeting, please email us at contact@kycitizens.orgPlease do this ASAP as we are running out of time!
  • Tomorrow, Thursday, May 1st, May Day protests will be happening all around the country. If you are able, join protestors in Louisville at Metro City Hall from 11 am to 2 pm. Our own Alex LeBlanc will be speaking!
  • We are looking to begin committee work starting next week that will be centered around our mission statement of Educate, Activate, Elevate. If you are interested in joining us in this engaging and purposeful work, once again, please go to kycitizens.org and click on the top link on the home page and fill out the required information. Someone will contact you soon.
  • Next general meeting will be Thursday, May 22nd, from 6:30-8 pm. It will be in our usual location at St. James Episcopal Church in Pewee Valley, KY.

As you come across action items you would like our group to take up, or speakers you would like us to invite to our meetings, please email us your ideas at contact@kycitizens.org. Our leadership team does not have all the best ideas, so we want to hear from you!

Thanks!

Sincerely,
Michael E. Slider
