Kentucky Citizens for Democracy to Join Kentucky Council of Churches Day at the Legislature

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 19, 2026

FRANKFORT, KY — Kentucky Citizens for Democracy (KCfD) will join the Kentucky Council of Churches for its Day at the Legislature on March 24, 2026, at the Kentucky State Capitol.

The event brings together faith leaders, advocates, and community members from across the Commonwealth for a day of “Faithful Engagement,”  including advocacy training, legislative updates, prayer, and direct meetings with lawmakers.

KCfD Executive Director Alex LeBlanc will attend alongside community members to ensure grassroots voices are part of those conversations.

“KCfD has deep respect for Rev. Rich Gianzero and the Kentucky Council of Churches,” said LeBlanc. “We’ve stood together at community vigils for Renee Good and in advocacy opposing LifeWise Academy as ‘moral instruction’ in Oldham County and Release Time for Religious Instruction mandates via changes to KRS158.200. That shared work matters, and we’re proud to carry it forward in Frankfort.”

“We’re showing up alongside faith leaders and everyday Kentuckians because decisions made in Frankfort impact real lives,” LeBlanc added. “This is about making sure those voices are heard.”

What to Expect at Day at the Legislature

Participants will:

  • Receive updates on pending legislation
  • Participate in faith-based advocacy training
  • Engage in direct conversations with lawmakers
  • Join in shared reflection and prayer
  • Connect with advocates from across Kentucky

The event is free and open to church members and community participants, with lunch provided.

Key Issues KCfD Will Raise with Lawmakers

  • Medicaid
Protecting access to healthcare for Kentucky families, seniors, and rural communities.
  • ICE Mandates
Opposing policies that require local entities to carry out federal immigration enforcement, which can undermine trust and community safety.
  • Religious Release Time Instruction (RTRI) / “Moral Instruction” Mandates
Raising concerns about impacts on public education, local control, and the separation of church and state.

KCfD’s participation reflects its commitment to community-driven advocacy and accountable government.

“We believe democracy works best when people show up,” LeBlanc said. “This is one way we make that real.”
